Mérida is among Mexico’s top 10 MICE destinations (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions).
In 2010 MDC Magazine included Merida in the Top 10 destinations for meetings and events in Mexico due to its facilities, the diversity of its pre- and post- event activity portfolio, and its proximity to archaeological sites, natural attractions, beaches, fine cuisine and the cultural wealth of Yucatán.
Mérida, capital of Yucatan, is one of the most important cities of the south-east of Mexico.
Everything is close to Mérida. It is a fascinating colonial city with the second largest old town in the country. It offers a varied cultural agenda, great museums, colourful markets, and street festivals to experience the rich local tradition first-hand.
In Mérida you will find modern and cosmopolitan venues, over 300 restaurants, excellent services, and all the infrastructures of a large city.
A first class Convention Centre, excellent hotels and unique places.
The Siglo XXI Yucatan Convention and Exhibition Centre is considered to be one of the best in the country. It is located just 20 minutes from the city centre, and has a total surface area of 84,000 m2 (20,900 m2 of which is roofed). This impressive venue provides all the necessary services for any type of event. Additionally, the state of Yucatán has many haciendas and unique venues for holding of all kinds of meetings.
Providing top-quality accommodation to attendees won’t be a problem. Merida has 11,000 hotel rooms, half of which are three-star to luxury. The main hotel zone is 10 minutes from the exhibition centre.
If you want to organise special events for small groups, consider one of the State’s Haciendas or even hold it in the charming Chichén Itzá, which has 220 rooms and facilities that are suitable for meetings and various activities.
We are backed by over 100 events and 40,000 meetings visitors annually.
The companies that provide event services in Yucatán benefit from the excellent reputation earned by the State as a MICE destination. The State is home to more than 120 conferences, which bring in more than 40,000 visitors annually.
The Yucatán Meetings and Conventions Bureau provides support for any event for free: inspection visits, logistics, contact with service providers, unique venues, among others.
Mérida is one of the city’s medical capitals, with two of the most prestigious medical schools and a major healthcare industry, making it one of the best destinations for events in this sector.
Its commitment to tourism connects Yucatán with the rest of the world.
Mérida has air connections with five domestic destinations (Mexico City, Veracruz, Villahermosa, Guadalajara and Monterrey) and two international destinations (Miami and Houston). It also has road access to the centre of the country and the Mexican Caribbean destinations. Puerto Progreso, just 35 km from Merida, reinforces the city’s commitment to becoming the main tourist centre of the region.
An unbeatable location to provide the best programmes for your event.
There are also facilities for events and hotels in Chichén Itzá and Uxmal.
If you want to incorporate unique activities into your event’s programme, you can swim in cenotes like X’Batún or Dzibilchaltún near Mérida, watch the great migration of over 300,000 flamingos in the Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve, or enjoy some water sports. And remember to include a bird watching trip for American visitors, as 465 species can be spotted in Yucatán.
Yucatán also offers the possibility to enrich your event with an authentic cultural exchange and insight into Mayan culture, enjoying their legendary hospitality, magnificent Yucatán cuisine and delicate crafts.
Yucatán, land of origin, where the Mayans raised their most impressive cities, where the water flows and emanates from mysterious cenotes (sinkholes). An unforgettable place that fills any event with magic.
